Point your camera at a card and hold it upright so it fills the frame. WorthDex finds the card, reads it on your device, and matches it against the catalog. Recognition runs on-device, and the app only reads price data from our content network, never from a third-party price service directly. When two cards are close, a one-tap variant picker confirms the right one instead of guessing. We label a match as "Strong match" or "Likely match — confirm" in plain words, never with an accuracy score we haven't earned.

Tap "Not this card?" on the result, then search the full catalog by name, set, or the printed number like 4/102 and pick the right one. It's the same search whether the card came from the camera or from a photo you imported. When a card has several printings, you choose the exact variant. Some cards share the same art across sets (Base Set, Base Set 2, Legendary Collection); when the name is clear but the printing isn't, WorthDex asks "Which printing?" and waits for you to pick before it shows a price. Every correction is anonymous and helps recognition improve over time. It's never tied to your identity or account.

Some cards are hard to scan, like one still sealed in a pack or not in front of you. Open your Collection and tap the plus button in the toolbar to add a card by searching the catalog. Find it by name, set, or the number printed on the card, typed in full like 4/102 (004/102 works too), then set its condition, variant, and quantity just like a scan. No photo needed.

Yes. If your cards are already in your photo library, WorthDex can read them from there. Tap "Import from Photos" on the Home screen, the Import button in the scanner's controls, or "Import from Photos" on an empty Collection. If the scanner asks for camera access, that screen offers photo import too, whether you haven't decided yet or you've already said no, so the camera is never the only way in. Pick one photo and it goes like a live scan: WorthDex identifies the card and opens the same result sheet, where you set condition, variant, quantity, and what you paid before adding it. A single import counts against your free scans, and the count is spent when you add the card, not when you identify it, so an import you decide against costs you nothing.

Yes, up to 20 at a time, as a batch. Batch importing is part of Pro: on the free tier, selecting more than one photo opens the upgrade screen instead of half-running the job. A batch opens a review list, one row per photo, with a progress line while it works. What a row shows depends on how it went: matched, you get the card with its own condition, variant, and quantity plus "Not this card?"; not matched, you get "Identify this card" and a "Search the catalog" button; and if the name is clear but the printing isn't, the row asks you to pick which printing it is. Any row you haven't added yet has a trash button. Nothing is ever added on its own: "Add to collection" adds one row, "Add all confirmed" adds every row that's ready and leaves the rest alone, and a row you've added reads "Added". Tap Done when you're finished, and rows you didn't add are dropped.

Then it says so instead of guessing. You get "Couldn't identify this card" and a nudge to try again with the card flat and well lit. No Add button appears, because there's nothing to add yet. Instead you get two ways forward: "Search the catalog" to find the card by hand, or "Choose another photo". If the shot has several cards in it, it tells you to frame just one and try again. In a batch, a photo it can't place becomes an "Identify this card" row with the same catalog search a tap away.

One card per photo, your own photo of the physical card, shot so the card fills a good part of the frame and stops short of the edges. Any still photo your phone can open is fine, including HEIC, and it doesn't matter which way round you were holding the phone. A screenshot won't work, because WorthDex looks for a card with edges inside the frame and a screenshot fills the whole thing. A photo of a card on a screen can slip through and get named, so look at the card WorthDex found before you add it. If a photo hasn't finished downloading from iCloud you may see "Couldn't load photos", which normally means getting back on a connection and trying again.

Your own. By default WorthDex shows the photo you took, not stock art.

Each card carries its details: condition, variant, quantity, and what you paid (your cost basis). Set a default condition for new cards in Profile.

Value changes by variant. A 1st Edition holo and an unlimited print of the same card are worth very different amounts, so setting the right variant gets you the right price.

To find a card you already own, use the search field at the top of your Collection: type a name, a set code like base1, or the printed number 4/102.

The free tier tracks up to 25 cards. WorthDex Pro removes the cap and tracks an unlimited collection.

Yes. From the toolbar you can switch between a grid of thumbnails, a single-column list, or a binder that flips through nine cards a page like the real thing. All three are free, and they show your own card photos.

WorthDex Pro can export your whole collection to a CSV file, with a column for what you paid (your cost basis), so it opens cleanly in Numbers or Sheets.

Recent-sold is what cards actually traded for. Current asking is the lowest active listing. They're different numbers, an asking price is not a sale, and WorthDex always shows both, separately and never conflated, so you can see the real spread.

Every price shows where it came from and how fresh it is. Each figure is labelled for what it is, like a bundled snapshot estimate or your own entry. A price is a market reference, not a guaranteed sale price. Market data comes from TCGplayer.

A small line under your total that shows your collection's value over time. Switch it between Sold and Ask, the two numbers we keep separate, and see how many of your cards each side actually priced (“Sold: 12 of 40 cards”). The solid part of the line is recorded on your device as you use the app; the dashed part is estimated from your cards' past prices, labelled so you never read an estimate as a recorded total. A new collection starts empty here (“Your value trend starts as prices update”) and fills in as prices move. Drag across the chart to read your value on any recorded day, and a small change chip by your total shows how it moved over the range you're viewing, with an up or down arrow and a plus or minus. It's worked out on your device and synced through your own private iCloud, never to a WorthDex server.

Below the trend, a “Your movers” strip shows which of your own cards moved most over the last week, up or down, with the percentage and a plain read like “at a high” or “down from peak”. It describes what happened, never what to do. Each card's move is its sold or ask price on its own, never the two mixed, and a card with too little price history simply doesn't appear yet.

You can compare a few cards side by side. In your collection, tap Select, pick 2 to 6 cards, then tap Compare. Each card's price history is re-based to 100 at the date they all share, so you read how their values moved relative to each other, not their dollar amounts. It's the sold or the asking number on its own, one at a time, never the two mixed, and any card without enough history in the range is left out and counted underneath. Comparing the last 30 days is free; comparing longer windows is part of Pro.

WorthDex is free to start: 10 scans every month and a collection of up to 25 cards, with no account needed. WorthDex Pro is $7.99 per month or $49.99 per year and starts with a 7-day free trial. Pro unlocks unlimited scans, an unlimited collection, and the full price history beyond the last 30 days.

Pro is billed through your Apple ID. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Price, term, and renewal are shown before you buy.

You can manage or cancel right inside the app: Profile, then Subscription, then Manage Subscription. It's a Pro feature, since only a subscriber has a subscription to manage, and it opens Apple's own subscription screen. You can also do it from iOS Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions.

If you reinstall WorthDex or set up a new device, open Profile and tap Restore Purchases. One of three honest things happens: your Pro subscription comes back, we find nothing to restore on your Apple ID, or we couldn't reach the App Store and you try again. Restore brings back your Pro subscription, the entitlement you paid for. It does not move your cards, those come back on their own through your private iCloud sync, which is a separate thing.

Recognition runs on your device. Your cards and photos live on your device and in your own private iCloud, synced through CloudKit with no separate WorthDex login. We can't read what's in your iCloud. Your free-scan count is tracked on your device, not on a server. For the full details, read our Privacy Policy.

We collect anonymous usage and crash diagnostics to improve the app and keep it stable. These never include your photos or personal details and aren't linked to you. You can turn this off any time in Profile, under "Analytics & diagnostics". See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Photos sync at full quality by default. If you'd rather save iCloud space, Profile has a Save-space option.

No. WorthDex doesn't ask for your whole library: the system picker hands over only the photos you choose. The one photo permission WorthDex does ask for runs the other way: adding a picture, never reading your library, and only if you choose Save Image when you share a card. The photo is read on your device, and nothing about the image is uploaded to us. Your originals stay in your library untouched, and the card WorthDex cuts out of the photo becomes that card's picture, kept on your device and in your own private iCloud like every other card in your collection.

Price alerts are a Pro feature. Open any card, tap the bell, and pick how big a move you want to hear about by a percentage you choose. We'll watch that card and let you know when its market price moves by that much, up or down.

Alerts are checked when you open the app, and in the background when iOS allows. Background timing is up to your phone, so the surest check is simply opening WorthDex. When a card crosses your threshold, you get a local notification, generated on your device. The first time you set an alert we ask permission to send notifications; you can turn that off any time in iOS Settings.

No. An alert is a heads-up, not advice. It tells you what the market did, like “up since you set your alert”, and leaves the decision to you.

Cards you're watching show a bell on their thumbnail in your collection, and you can filter the collection to just those cards. To change an alert or stop watching a card, tap its bell again, or open Price alerts from the collection toolbar or Profile. To stop watching, tap the bell on a card you already watch and choose “Stop watching this card”.

Two, both a Pro feature. A portfolio-value widget (small or medium) shows what your collection is worth with an honest “as of” date, and a top-mover widget (medium) shows your biggest price move over the last week, up or down, with an arrow and the percentage. A free widget shows an upgrade prompt instead of a value, and tapping it opens the upgrade screen.

From your own collection multiplied by the latest prices, the same way the app computes your total. They refresh in the background within a few hours. Tap the value widget to open WorthDex; tap the top-mover widget to jump straight to that card.

Yes. Try “What's my collection worth in WorthDex” to hear your total, or “Show my Charizards in WorthDex” to open your collection filtered to that card. The spoken value is a Pro feature; if you're not Pro, Siri tells you it's a Pro feature rather than a number. If you've just installed WorthDex, open it once so it can work out your value, then ask.

Tap “Share my collection” on the Home screen, or open a single card and tap “Share this card”. WorthDex makes a clean, branded image and hands it to the iOS share sheet, so you choose where it goes: a message, a story, wherever you like. Sharing is free.

The collection image shows your total value and how many of your cards are priced. The single-card image shows the card's name, the recent sold price, and the lowest ask when both exist, each labelled so the two are never read as one number. A single-card image built from market data names the price source and calls it a Near-Mint market reference. If you typed the price in yourself, the image says “Your entry” instead of naming a market side, and it never claims a market reference. Where we have a real date for the price, the image carries an honest “as of” line, so nobody reads a stale number as today's. No card art is used, just text and the WorthDex mark.

No. The value is worked out on your device, and the image is only sent to the app you pick. WorthDex doesn't post it anywhere or send it to us. If you've hidden your portfolio value with the eye toggle, the “Share my collection” button goes away too, so you can't broadcast a value you meant to keep private. And if a card or your collection isn't priced yet, there's nothing to share until it is. One of the choices in the share sheet is Save Image, which puts the picture in your own Photos. The first time you pick it, iOS asks whether WorthDex may add to Photos. That is the only photo permission the app ever asks for, and turning it down leaves the rest of sharing working.

WorthDex keeps an anonymous tally of the corrections you make, with no photo and nothing tied to you, so we can see where recognition needs work. If you'd like to do more, Profile has an opt-in called “Help improve recognition”, under Privacy & data. It's off until you turn it on. When it's on, the cropped photo of a card you correct is kept on this device, alongside the same anonymous details. This is free, and it's separate from the anonymous tally, which the app always keeps.

No. Nothing is uploaded automatically. The crop only leaves your phone if you choose to export it, with the “Export correction data” button below the toggle, so you can send it our way to help train better recognition. Turn the setting off and everything kept is deleted.

The Explore tab lets you browse cards by set. Open a set to see a checklist of its cards, each marked Owned or Missing, with a bar at the top showing how far along you are. Sets you've started collecting sort to the front, so the ones you care about are easy to find. Explore is free for everyone, and it's where all your set-completion progress lives.

At the top of Explore you'll also find Market movers: the cards whose market price changed the most since our last update, split into top gainers and top losers. It covers the whole catalog, not just your collection, and it's purely descriptive. Each row shows the card, its current market price, and how far it moved, with the date the prices are from. Tap a mover to open its set's checklist.

Each set shows “N of M tracked”, and “tracked” means the cards WorthDex recognizes in that set, not the official printed set size. We say it plainly so the number is never mistaken for the full set. Tap Share on any checklist to hand a clean, branded image to the iOS share sheet, with the same honest “tracked” wording and no card art.
